Bongofari - the originator of Odo Reggae - joined the ongoing debate of whether Nigerian music should be banned or not to be played this December 2023. This came about when artistes like Black Sheriff, Samini,Reggie Rock and others made their plea at a conference organised.
In an interview with Penznbrainz to get his take on the issue,he made mention that
the rise of Nigerian music was an agender long planned and well exicuted.
IDENTITY CRISIS
"it became a major concern when Ghanaian music was dominant in Nigeria.They had noway of overthrowing Ghanaian music so they decided to study it and cook something similar but this time with more vibe " he explained.
"Our own HiLife is what they have repackaged and giving to us and the rest of the world.We are fighting our
identity" he said.
PUSHING OTHERS
Bongofari mentioned that the idea of flooding the music market with fresh artists every
year from different camps but same agenda..Afrobeat!!.Just mention them:
Don Jazzi
Olamide
Davido
Tiwa Savage
Wiz Kid
and others.
In Ghana
-Sakodie=0
-Shatta Wale=0
-Edem=0
-Reggie Rock=0 and so on.
The artists that has tried but are not getting push:
-Richie
-Bullet(Ruff N Smooth)
-Obrafour and a few or none.
They aim for their own self esteem which not all of them will get.
GROSS DISRESPECT
He continue by saying that most of the artists and managers in Ghana do not respect Mcs,Djs and
Presenters.They forget to show appreciation either in cash or kind and always downlook them
especially mobile Djs - they are the real promotors.Before a dj sees a manager,then he is there
for promo.
GO OR SEND GHOSTS
Ghanaian artists prefer clubs to pubs whiles Nigerians the other way round where they
can do music requests from the dj at a fee. Give money to boylars to spend in bars and pubs
all in the name promo. Befriend more "night" ladies.
HAVE AN AGENDA
What type of music are we presenting - Hilife - pakaged in a new way.
This can be done through the beat makers,engineer,mixing,recording and mastering
groups.
Tones and samples to use.
Playing or promo can be done through the dj,mc,presenters,producer ect groups.
Bongofari is working on a new single which he promised will be better than
Odo Reggae,Je t'erm, My Love etc.
