Ghana Fuel Prices Dip as Marketing Companies Adjust Rates

Oil marketing companies in Ghana have reduced petrol prices mid-month after maintaining stability during early August.

Several major brands implemented modest cuts this week, offering consumers relief despite earlier projections suggesting price hikes.

Initial market observations showed minimal movement when the new pricing window opened, contradicting Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies forecasts that anticipated slight petrol increases and marginal diesel decreases. By mid-week, TotalEnergies and Shell stations lowered petrol from over ₵13.30 to ₵12.89 per litre. Puma Energy reduced petrol to ₵12.30 from ₵12.69, while market leader Star Oil made the deepest cut to ₵11.97 from ₵12.59. Diesel saw smaller adjustments, with Star Oil trimming it to ₵13.97 from ₵13.99.

Not all companies followed the downward trend. So Energy increased both fuels, raising petrol to ₵11.99 from ₵11.20 and diesel to ₵13.99 from ₵13.20. This countermove creates uneven pricing across the market, with petrol now ranging ₵11.97–₵12.89 and diesel ₵13.97–₵14.33. Premium fuel products remained unchanged.

The mid-window reductions reflect Ghana’s bi-weekly pricing model, which considers global oil trends, cedi stability, and inventory levels. Analysts attribute the shift to favorable supply conditions and new cargo arrivals. While providing temporary respite amid living-cost pressures, the mixed pricing landscape leaves uncertainty for the window’s second half.
