Founded in 2009, the Africa Gospel Music Association and AGMA serves as the face and voice for the African gospel/Christian music community worldwide and is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating the gospel through Africa-fusion music of all styles.
It is by no means a competition but an event that honours and recognises talented and hard working gospel artistes based in Africa and in the diaspora. Recognition is also given to organisations and other media entities who seek to promote African Gospel Music and artistes.
The first Awards celebration was held in a South London venue with a capacity of 300 in the summer of 2010.
The following year saw the event relocating to a much larger location 'The Lighthouse, also in London, due to increased interest and participation, with patronage and support trebling. The event moved to the prestigious Golders Green Hippodrome in 2012 with the event streamed live to the USA and Africa, with the support of OHTV.
